FIVA and the Turin Charter

The International Federation of Vintage Vehicles (FIVA) was founded in 1966 in response to an idea formulated by a handful of organisations representing the interests of historic vehicle enthusiasts within a number of different countries. The founders felt that the time had come for an international body to promote and guide the interests of the historic vehicle movement throughout the world.

At present FIVA can boast over 85 member organisations in more than 62 countries throughout the world, which in turn represent more than 1.5 million historic vehicle enthusiasts.

Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens

FIVA recently drafted what has become known as the Turin Charter. This sets out the guiding principles for the use, upkeep, preservation, restoration and repair of historic vehicles in active use. FIVA hopes that these guidelines will help restorers and owners to make reasonable and sustainable decisions regarding the preservation and restoration of historic vehicles.

It is hoped by FIVA that this will become the benchmark of vehicle restoration in the future, and parts of this may well be adopted as part of EU legislation in the future.

We therefore carry out all work with this charter in mind. We will always fully consult with the owner before work is carried out and copies of relevant regulations etc. are available on request.
